Farm Fun with Leah

Okay, ‘ehh-hemm’, I’m ready. Okay, so my name is Leah, and my dad is one of the founders of The No Lack Farm. I am thirteen and I take care of the chickens on the farm. Which really means, they give us their eggs, and in turn I baby-talk and feed them. My favorite chicken currently is a cute hen named Little Bit. She’s a little bit nice, a little bit naughty, a little bit dumb, and a little bit smart. That equals Kentucky fried chicken- ‘cough,’ excuse me. What I meant was a good little egg-laying hen. (Is anyone else hungry?) so, I’m going to be giving farm tips and stories about chickens, except in an enjoyable and funny way. So, here’s my first.

If you like football, you should see the chicken version! It is Hilarious! When taking care of chickens, sometimes its nice to stop and smell the roses, or stop and watch the chickens, because dad isn’t fond of roses, you know thorns and all. I love to throw out the scraps in their pen and watch the chickens run frantically for them. Want to see your own chicken football game in your yard? It’s fun and I highly recommend it! One time my younger sister had a banana peel in her hand. She held it above one of our hens, and commanded it to jump. It did! That was one lucky hen with a banana peel all to herself.  So, now that you know about chicken football, that brings up an important topic that I just remembered. What type of food scraps is okay to give chickens? After all, what’s a chicken football game if they can’t even eat the scraps? So, one thing I found out is that chickens don’t like avocado, in fact, I’ve heard that some people say avocado will hurt chickens. I don’t know if that’s true, but what I do know is if chickens don’t want it they won’t touch it, because I do give my chickens avocado sometimes in the scraps, and they just don’t eat it. Which makes quite a boring football game. Normally, chickens won’t eat something that isn’t good for them. They do love left over soup, eggshells (Yes, chickens do eat eggshells as a source of calcium and magnesium!), tomatoes, potato peels, and for some serious tackling, banana peels and old spaghetti! Chickens will pretty much eat anything really. They are omnivores, so that makes sense.  Well, that pretty much wraps up chicken football. Let me know if you genuinely want to hear more stories and tips, and I’ll be ready! Bye!
